Remember how excited you were as a kid when that fluffy white stuff fell from the sky? Now, as an adult, you aren’t so excited because you understand the added responsibility of removing it from your sidewalk and driveway. That is why we want to help! We have put together a list of things you can do to make your snow removal process a little easier this year.

3 snow removal tips for your home:

  1. Use tall stakes around your property.
  2. Remove snow often.
  3. Use property safety precautions.

Use tall stakes around your property.

It’s important that before the first snowfall that you place tall stakes around your sidewalk and driveway. Doing so will help you visualize where your driveway ends. This way you don’t walk off shoveling or plowing your drive. This will also help someone who you may have contracted to do the work nowhere to stop.

Remove snow often.

The best practice for snow removal is to remove it often. When you let the snow sit for long periods of time it tends to get heavier and freezes due to the cold temperatures. If you take the time to get out there and remove it as it falls it is lighter. This will also be better on your body as you won’t be exerting as much energy.

Use property safety precautions.

Snow removal can be a very dangerous activity, especially if you are up in age. You should always consult a physician before performing such a strenuous activity.

If you have been approved by your doctor to remove snow we want to share some of our best practices with you.

  • Be sure to always bend your knees so that you are lifting the snow with your legs and not your back.
  • Switch what hand you are using to lift the snow to avoid over-exerting one side of your body.
  • If the snow is heavy don’t try and get it all removed at once. It is important that you take breaks and have someone know where you are and what you are doing in case of an emergency.

We want to reiterate that you should always talk to a doctor before performing an exercise such as this. Your driveway or sidewalk being cleaned off is not as important as your health. Do you still have questions? Stop by and let the friendly professionals at Snappy’s help you!
