Who doesn’t love the fall weather? Fall is a beautiful time of year that brings changes in the leaves, football, and cooler weather. With all of that, comes time to clean up the lawn. You will want to take care of your lawn before it gets too cold because no one wants to be out in the freezing cold.

5 helpful tips for fall cleanup:

  1. Remove the leaves
  2. Fertilize your lawn
  3. Overseed your lawn
  4. Clean the gutters
  5. Powerwash your deck

Remove the leaves

How often do you rack up your leaves? If you are one of the ones who leave them lie, you might want to consider picking them up. Leaving thick layers of leaves on your lawn blocks the sun and air from reaching your grass, which could result in lawn disease.

Fertilize your lawn

Do you fertilize your lawn? If not, you should. Fertilizing your lawn helps promote root growth and gets it ready for next season. You will want to complete this job in early fall for the best results. Also, be sure to pull the weeds that are taking up your garden and lawn.

Overseed your lawn

Before you begin seeding your lawn, you will want to cut your grass shorter than normal. Once that process is complete, you can begin overseeding your lawn. This will help your grass become thicker when spring hits. You will want to make sure that you lightly water the grass to ensure it grows properly.

Clean the gutters

You will want to make sure that all leaves are removed from your gutters and around your home’s premises before the first snowfall. Clogged gutters cause ice dams to form. You will also need to remove the leaves around your foundation that are prone to mold.

Powerwash your deck

Do you have a deck? They are great for porch sitting and parties, but most people forget they need a little TLC before winter hits. The best thing you can do to prevent mold and other things from destroying your deck is removing the debris it has collected with a power washer. If you don’t own one, they are available to rent.
