4 Snow Plow Winter Maintenance Tips:
- Check electrical
- Inspect the cutting edge
- Check the hydraulic fuel levels
- Inspect the springs and bolts
Check electrical
You will always want to check your electrical connection to make sure that they are free from corrosion. You can apply dielectric grease to the exposed connection to help prevent corrosion from occurring. You will also want to watch for loose wiring that could potentially become a hazard.
Also, be sure to check your bulbs to see if they are dimmed or burnt out. You will want to replace them ASAP before your next job.
Inspect the cutting edge
You will want to read your plow’s owner’s manual to see what the recommended cutting edge length is before a replacement is needed. During the winter season, be sure you are inspecting the cutting edge on a regular basis. This will help ensure that your snow plow is performing to its potential and that you aren’t damaging your plow in the process.
Check the hydraulic fuel levels
The hydraulic fuel is key to make sure that your snowplow is performing it’s best during the winter. You will want to check your levels at the start of each season to ensure that you aren’t running low. You will also want to check your owner’s manual as most snow plows suggest that you empty your hydraulic fuel and start anew each season.
Inspect the springs and bolts
You will also want to ensure that your springs and bolts are tight. Not only will you want to check them at the beginning of the season, but you will want to check them throughout to ensure optimal performance. Keep in mind, that when the season is over you can loosen the springs to relieve tension on the plow during storage.
