Snow shoveling tips:

You have heard this many times about being careful when shoveling but really; you need to take it seriously. Make it easy on yourself and think ahead, consider salting your driveway or sidewalk when you know it’s about to snow. This may help prevent unnecessary slips or falls before you even start shoveling. Do some stretches, squats or walk around your house for a few minutes before you head out to shovel. Don’t procrastinate, it will be way easier on you if you shovel two inches of snow rather than five! Once the snow has been packed and dense it becomes heavy. Push snow rather than lift and throw because it is way easier to push rather than lifting. If you do choose to lift it is important to keep in mind you keep your feet hips width apart, bend your knees and keep your back straight, try not to twist your torso when lifting, and lastly shovel small amounts at a time to reduce the amount of stress you will put on your body. Try and stay hydrated and take small breaks that way you can give your body a rest and you can catch your breath. Don’t push yourself to get all the shoveling done at once, do the areas that have the most traffic first.

Plowing tips:

When is the best time to plow, or does it matter? Well, actually the sooner you get rid of the snow after it falls the better. The reason being is because when the snow is heavy and if it sits too long then it will be hard and dry in cold conditions and in warm conditions very slushy. A helpful tip is to invest in snow tires because having good traction on the heavy snow days eliminates slipping and sliding. You can’t push snow if you don’t a good grip on the pavement! Did you know there are a couple different styles of plows to chose from? A front mount is used for the front end of your vehicle and installs with a mounting kit or front receiver hitch. This is the most popular mounting style to ease control. A tip is when you are thinking about removing snow that is up close to a wall, raise your blade and drive toward the wall so it can get packed up tight and have room for building more snow on top of.

A rear mount is used for the rear of your vehicle and is used to either push or pull snow to its intended location. The rear mount is really good for pulling snow to wherever you want it to go. Do you still have questions? Stop by and let the friendly professionals at Snappy’s help you!
