Sweet summertime! If you have a backyard oasis or even a front porch that you like to sit on and watch the world go by, then you understand how hard it is to keep your patio furniture clean. But, it is not impossible. That’s why we want to go over how to clean the different types of furniture that you may have on your porch.

How to clean your patio furniture:

  1. Brush the dust
  2. Wipe down the plastic
  3. Re-paint
  4. Don’t forget the dish soap

Brush the dust

Before you get too crazy, you want to start with the basics. Start brushing the dust, leaves, and other debris that can be found on your patio furniture off so you can actually see what is “stuck” on and needs to be thoroughly cleaned off. You can use your hands to brush or shake things off or you can easily buy a small brush and get in between the cracks and crevices that way.

Wipe down the plastic

Plastic patio furniture is the easiest to maintain as it doesn’t rust. Even though the plastic furniture is easy to maintain you don’t want to use any cleaning items that may scruff it up. Just use a toothbrush, wet wipe, or sponge to wipe it down with some liquid cleaning solution and it should be good as new.

Re-paint

If you have metal furniture that is painted, you know firsthand how after time that the paint begins to peel and chip. When this happens your furniture looks old and dated, so that is why you may want to consider repainting it. Head to your local hardware store and find some quality outdoor paint that can stand the outdoor conditions that may age it sooner than later.

Don’t forget the dish soap

If you have fabric pieces that are included in your patio set then you know how dirty these items can get. Most of these detachable pieces are not made for your washer, and that is why you want to consider getting an old dishrag, a sponge and some dish soap and wash it down yourself and then let it air dry outside. But, as always you should check the tags or manufacturers’ website for any detailed instructions on how to take care of these pieces.

No matter what time of year you find yourself sitting outside watching the world pass by, we hope you enjoy every moment.
