Winter will come in like a roaring lion. The cold air, icy, and snowy roads all make it difficult for us as humans but have you thought about your outdoor equipment during this time of year? Your outdoor equipment is used to warmer temperatures and you want it to be ready to go as soon as spring arrives. The more you prepare now, the better off you will be later.

How to get your outdoor equipment ready for winter:

  1. Look over your owner’s manual.
  2. Don’t forget about unused fuel.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Properly store your equipment.

Look over your owner’s manual.

Your owner’s manual is the key to maintaining your equipment properly. Inside the booklet is the answer to all of your questions. If you can’t find your owner’s manual try checking online or contacting the 1-800 number listed for the brand. You can guesstimate all you want on how things should be done, but all of the right answers are found in the company manual.

Don’t forget about unused fuel.

You don’t want to leave unused fuel in the gas tank when storing your outdoor equipment for the winter. Be sure to empty the tank before storing it. Leaving the unused fuel inside the tank all winter long can damage your equipment making it impossible to use when the first sign of spring arrives.

Remove the battery.

If your equipment has a removable battery you will also want to be sure that you store it in a clean place for the winter. Leaving your battery in the equipment for a long period of time can cause acid erosion among other things that can damage your equipment.

Properly store your equipment.

Have you specified a location that your outdoor equipment can be placed? You will want to make sure that it is in a location that will be clean and dry. Also, you will want to be sure that your equipment is out of reach from little children and pets if you have them.

While all of the things listed above may seem tedious and time-consuming, it is in your best interest to take the time to make sure your equipment is stored properly. You have spent a lot of money investing in good outdoor equipment, so make sure you treat it well and it will treat you well when springtime arrives.
