This may be the first winter you’ve owned a mower or the 20th but regardless of how long you’ve been mowing your lawn, we want you to store your mower properly so that it’s ready once spring weather hits.

How to store a lawnmower in the winter:

  1. Remove the battery
  2. Clean the mower
  3. Add Stabilized Fuel

Remove the battery

Step number one: it’s important to remove the battery and store it in a cool dry place. Wipe off the battery and keep it away from any gas cans, furnaces, etc. that may cause a problem later.

Clean the mower

Step number two: You will want to brush off all the leaves, grass, and any other debris that may be stuck on top of the mower or in the undercarriage. It’s important that you never put your hands near the blades to try and clean it. Always follow proper safety procedures when cleaning dangerous equipment. Wear protective eyewear, gloves, and a hat to shield yourself from anything that could be damaging.

Add stabilized fuel

Step number three: you want to rid your gas tank of any fuel that still may be in it. Leaving your mower with a full tank of gas may only cause problems after it sits for months such as build-up in the fuel system, rust may form, and clogging. Once you add the stabilized fuel to your mower’s engine be sure to run it as directions state to ensure that fuel has a chance to run through the system to maximize its performance.
