Proper lawn care is essential when treating uneven spots in your lawn. Uneven lawn spots can be troublesome for landowners as they create poor curb appeal, can be cut down to the soil bed, and create the opportunity for accidents to occur. Taking care of the uneven spots in a lawn is a priority for those looking to sell a home or even considering which home to buy. There are several ways that leveling can be done easily and efficiently and the options to fix unevenness or level a yard can be inexpensive and relatively quick.
For lawns that are slightly raised, there are two options: you can use a rotary mower or a spade.
Using a rotary mower:
Set the mower to low in order to begin the scalping process of the raised level. This will going into the soil level and create a flat surface. In order to get the best results, this should be done in growing season to allow the soil to re-grow the grass.
Using a Spade:
Cut around the area in which you want to level out. Then, remove the turf from the soil and take away some of the soil underneath. Continue removing the soil until the desired height or level is met. After, replace the turf back to the spot in order to have your lawn still appealing.
For spots in your yard that are lower than the rest, you can easily raise the spot to be level by adding good soil to the area. We recommend adding soil inch by inch over an extended period of time to give the new soil time to settle. Once the area is level, you can either lay grass seed or wait for the grass below to grew up into the new soil.
Leveling an uneven lawn can be a decision that impacts the way your neighbors and drive-by traffic are attracted to your house. This could mean the difference between selling your house or keeping it on the market even longer. Additionally, leveling an uneven yard can reduce the risk of potential accidents and future yard frustrations.
